Core Skincare Routine

How does it improve your skin in your daily routine?

Salons emphasize consistency with a daily regimen, often recommending professional-grade products for optimal results. The core steps include:

Morning Routine

  • Cleansing:

    • Use a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser suited to your skin type to remove overnight impurities without stripping natural oils.

    • Example: Cream-based cleansers for dry skin, gel or foaming cleansers for oily skin.

  • Toning:

    • Apply a toner to balance skin’s pH, remove residual cleanser, and prep for serums. Look for alcohol-free toners with ingredients like rose water, chamomile, or witch hazel.

  • Serums/Treatments:

    • Use targeted serums with active ingredients:

  1.
      • Vitamin C: Brightens and protects against free radicals (great for hyperpigmentation).

      • Hyaluronic Acid: Hydrates and plumps skin.

      • Niacinamide: Reduces redness, regulates oil, and minimizes pores.

    • Apply 1-2 drops and pat gently into skin.

  • Moisturizer:

    • Choose a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer for daytime. Look for ingredients like ceramides, peptides, or glycerin.

      • For dry skin, opt for richer creams; for oily skin, use gel-based formulas.

  • Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher):

    • Broad-spectrum SPF is non-negotiable to protect against UVA/UVB rays, preventing premature aging and hyperpigmentation.

      • Choose mineral (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) or chemical sunscreens based on skin sensitivity. Reapply every 2-3 hours if exposed to direct sunlight.

Evening Routine

  • Double Cleansing:

    • Start with a cleansing oil or micellar water to remove makeup, sunscreen, and impurities, followed by a water-based cleanser for a thorough clean.

  • Exfoliation (2-3 times per week):

    • Use a chemical exfoliant (e.g., AHAs like glycolic acid or BHAs like salicylic acid) to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. Avoid over-exfoliation to prevent irritation.

      • Physical scrubs are less common in salons due to potential microtears; if used, choose finely milled formulas.

  • Serums/Treatments:

    • Nighttime is ideal for reparative actives like retinol (for anti-aging) or peptides (for collagen support). Start with lower concentrations to build tolerance.

      • Alternate actives to avoid irritation (e.g., retinol one night, hydrating serum the next).

  • Moisturizer:

    • Use a richer night cream to lock in hydration and support skin repair. Look for ingredients like shea butter, squalane, or centella asiatica.

  • Eye Cream:

    • Apply a targeted eye cream to address puffiness, dark circles, or fine lines. Ingredients like caffeine, peptides, or hyaluronic acid are common.
